Approach and Pairings

A bit about our approach...

Laurelborn's hatchlings are captive-bred and -born, and kept with health and comfort as our priority. They thrive on a diet of ethically-raised mice, produced in-house at our mousery. All of our breeding snakes live as family pets in large, bioactive enclosures. Hatchlings enjoy natural substrate, appropriate hides and water dishes, are kept at optimal temperatures and humidity levels, and  are monitored frequently to ensure they are thriving before being made available for sale.

Because we are small-scale breeders of African house snakes, we are able to really put some love and fun into our projects. Here at Laurelborn, our hatchlings are treated as family members just as their parents are. As such, each hatchling not only receives an identifying number, but also a name!

2022: Morticia x Gomez

Mortcia, having reached breeding size over the past year, was ready to pair with Gomez in January 2022. We're very excited to be producing some gorgeous 3+ generation captive-bred and -born B. fuliginosus this season!

2022: Daphne x Bodhi

In January 2022, we paired proven breeder and gorgeous dam, Daphne (T+ albino, het T-, het hypo) with our sweet sire, Bodhi (T+ albino, het T-, het hypo). We are especially excited about this batch of hatchlings because we've not only produced out first hybinos, but we're also working on a hunch that double-expression of T- and T+ ("stacked" albinos) results in a gorgeous golden iris! It possible that it's just a product of the lines were working with, but in either case, our "stacked" albinos/hybinos are real stunners!

2021: Daphne x Julius

Our 2021 B. capensis babies were produced by our gorgeous dam, Daphne (T+ albino, het T-, het hypo) and our stunning sire, Julius (T- albino, het T+). Julius is a visual T- albino that was only meant to be carrying the T- albino gene. We were pleasantly surprised when we produced both visual T+ and T- albino hatchlings in this first pairing with Daphne!

Daphne produced three healthy clutches during her  2021 season (plus one healthy bonus egg in November!) from a single pairing with Julius in January. Luckily, she ate extremely well for us and maintained a healthy weight throughout all the hard work of growing and laying eggs.
